Croeso/Welcome from the Headteacher

I am very pleased to be able to write this short introduction for our school website. I was appointed as Executive Headteacher of Trinity Fields School in October 2022 but officially took up the post in September 2023. Previous to this, I have served a number of headships within RCT special schools.

On behalf of our pupils, staff and governors I would like to take this opportunity of welcoming you to our school website. Trinity Fields School, situated in the community of Ystrad Mynach, is a busy, forward-looking school that provides education and specialist facilities for pupils aged 3 to 19 with a wide range of learning difficulties.

Trinity Fields School and Resource Centre is a purpose built school which opened in 1998 and offers our pupils many unique and innovative features in order to develop their skills. We are currently at the beginning of a substantial extension project which is due to be completed in September 2024. This will give our pupils access to further state of the art facilities and will ensure the school keeps abreast of the latest technologies in teaching and learning.

First and foremost pupils are at the heart of all that we do at Trinity Fields. We have a long standing commitment to provide all pupils with the very best learning experiences as well as empowering them to make important decisions about future developments within the school. We continue to work within the guiding principles of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC); we achieved Level 2 of UNICEF's Rights Respecting Schools Award (RRSA) at the beginning of 2017. Our RRSA assessment report can be found under the "Policies" section of the website. We are extremely proud that we are the first school in Caerphilly to obtain this award. Our assessors said:

"Article 12 is at the heart of life at Trinity Fields. Pupils are enabled to fully participate in a meaningful and inclusive way. The assessors were able to see many examples of this during the assessment with the Headteacher stating "RRS and listening to our pupils is natural and an expectation at school. My job is to support our pupils and make a difference. This can only be achieved by listening to them".

At Trinity Fields we aim to promote and develop our pupils' learning, self-esteem, behaviour and confidence by providing rich and individualised learning opportunities for them to develop their skills and understanding, and create an exciting school community which is child-centred, empowering and inclusive. We have also embraced the THRIVE/Trauma Informed Schools (TIS) approaches across the school- further details of these approaches will be found under the "School Info" tab.

We work with all of our partners to provide the very best learning environment; we will ensure that all of our dedicated staff team are highly skilled and have access to specialist equipment and a broad range of outstanding facilities in order to meet pupils’ needs. These integrated facilities  provide pupils with the very best learning opportunities and resources which support our vision to be a Centre of Excellence.

Staff and governors are firmly committed to developing a whole school  “TEAM” ethos which guides all aspects of our work. I hope that our website gives you some insight into our work but having said this I would encourage you to visit our school as it is impossible to capture our ethos and unique character in words and photographs.

On behalf of pupils, staff and governors I look forward to welcoming you to Cae’r Drindod - Trinity Fields.

With my best wishes,

David Jenkins
